The construction of Aspen Infrastructure’s first subsidy-free solar farm is now under way.
The project – at Watnall, Nottinghamshire – will see a 10MW ground-mounted solar array constructed on land surrounding a former brickworks.
It is the first of a series of subsidy-free solar energy projects that Aspen Infrastructure intends to construct in 2019.
The 46 acre site is situated on low level agricultural land adjacent to Watnall Brickworks which ceased production in 1969.
In recognition of local community concerns about safety, the first phase of the project has included the provision of on-site security, boundary fencing and groundworks.
Installation of the ground-mounted solar panels is due to start in January.
